Inocuous thin strip of dirt to plates #18, 21, 22, 37, 44, 47, and 57. Minor tears to tp else VG; scarce title found in few libraries and fewer architectural firms even in France. Excellent architectural renderings of medieval French facades including chateaux throughout the country, some with people in streets, alleys, streams, etc. French titles and text. Rear foxing appears on several but without effect to front. #54 is chipped along the fore-edge. Foxing also extends to the title page, half title page and the 4-page accompanying booklet of plate recognition. A marvellous overview of the better castles (some in ruins) for this 200-year period. The original ribbon stays are missing, the backstrip is a green piece of buckram covering the original red strip now entirely lost. Internal gutters show green taping to inside overs--original covers are present. 1861 is a guess. This is oversized portfolio - addtl shipping costs may be required.

The pages have a little bumping to the edges but well away form the engraved area. Plates a little dusty and toned but the impressions are good. The original portfolio is brown Morocco grained cloth with elaborate blind tooled designs to both boards. Gilt lettering to the front board. Only one small piece of one silk tie remaining. This collection of original material of Jerome Myers includes two photographs of Jerome Myers, taken by Leo Grubman, one taken in 1910 [when they shared an art gallery and studio] and signed by Leo Grubman, the other taken by Grubman circa 1932. There is a photograph of his wife Ethel (photographer not identified). After his success at the Armory Show in 1911 with the sale of his painting "The Mission Tent" he was able to move into a new studio at the new Carnegie Hall building. There are two warmly personal letters with biographical items of interest plus some artistic representation. The first letter is to his friend Leo Grubman, dated January 21, 1914, and discusses with pride his daughter Virginia's dance recital and his busy schedule. There is a second letter (lacking the first page) of one page signed "Jerome" and circa 1915 of his move to Carmel, New York where he bought 18 acres in a very rustic setting (where he has made a few nice ink sketches along the margins of the letter).
