[Lacks index at the end, as usual (six leaves).] Pagination: [12], 188; [12], 144 pp. Both titles in red and black in fine woodcut borders, two woodcut portraits of Thurneysser, and numerous woodcuts, figures and tables, typesetting in numerous languages. The Melitsah has the two folding woodcut plates "Tabula Quarundam Syllabarum" & Tafel etlicher Sylben" which are symbolic illustrations of the four continents but lacks, as usual, the six plates of scripture tables, which Sudoff conjectures were available separately and thus often lacking. / Contemporary vellum, old ink manuscript spine title, edges red; soiled, tears in spine at cords, and head of spine, lacks ties. Con le sue Magnifiche Essequie stategli fatte in Fiorenza. Dall' Achademia Del Disegno. Con Licenza, & Privilegio. In Fiorenza Nella Stamperia de' Giunti 1568." Bound in the original full vellum.VERY RARE special offprint or separatum edition of Vasari's 1568 biography of Michelangelo, considered "rarissimo" or extreme rarity bibliographically. It is possibly the first example of an offprint following the invention of printing, or at least among the few earliest examples. There are only a small number of recorded examples which suggests a very limited print run. This separatum was issued during the course of printing of Vasari's 2nd edition Vite by the press of Giunti in Florence. Several copies were sent to libraries, making copies like this, unmarred by library labels or stamps, uncommon. Octavo. Publisher's green cloth, titles to spine in gilt. With the pictorial dust jacket. Gilt a little dulled on spine, some very slight rubbing to boards, black ink mark to bottom edge of text block, an excellent copy with the jacket, bright and only a little rubbed at ends and corners.
