London: Macmillan and Co, 1907. Hardcover. Very Good. frontis (portrait), vi, 255p. Contemporary polished prize leather (Kelvinside Academy). 18cm. All edges marbled (as are endpapers). Minor foxing. Prize label on endpaper. Mounted on the recto of the frontis is the clipped bottom portion of an autograph letter, SIGNED Gordon, which reads as follows: Believe me my dear Henry[?] Your affect... [abbreviated] Brother C G Gordon Please send letters to [?] Hill, Consul Jerusalem." We assume that the letter was written in 1883 when Gordon was in the Holy Land prior to going to the Sudan. We don't know who the recipient was -- Gordon had two sisters and no brothers. Henry was the middle name of one of his brothers-in-law so that is a possibility.
