About This Item
Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 1968. Quebec's Quiet Revolution began in 1949 in the quiet town of Asbestestos, here Premier Maurice Duplessis pitted his immense political power against social justice - and lost. Siding with business in the critical strike of 1949 Le Chef bitterly opposed the demands of the workers - demands which were strongly upheld by Joseph Charbonneau, the Archbishop of Montreal. Both men lost - Charbonneau then going into exile to British Columbia where he became plain "Father Joe". This three act play follows the tragedy of the two men who both thought they were right.
