Good. 8vo, publisher's ruddy brown cloth gilt, good or better, light wear, slight spine lean, mild musty odor, large private library bookplate of W. G. Stout and a few scattered marks to the text probably by Stout, using a thick blue pencil. Harrison was a Unitarian minister and journalist who was involved in many of the social causes of his day: abolitionism, Indian rights, forest preservation, and the cultural improvement of the working class. Best known for his realistic depictions of everyday American life, he is acknowledged as an important influence in the development of literary realism. Articles include "Three Typical Workingmen," "Workingmen's Wives," "Study of a New England Factory Town.
