Faint trace of an access no. on the spine. Pp. xvii + 688. With 8 chromolithographs by J. Smit & 6 by J.G. Keulmans. Plate no. 5a has some light foxing around the inner & top edges.

Museum presentation book plate on front paste down, and private library book plate of Rodolphe Meyer de Schauensee on adjacent free end leaf. Cloth covers are a little scuffed and rubbed, and there is a little light wear at spine ends and corners. Hinges (internal) are broke, though loosely holding. Front free end leaf is detached and chipped. First few leaves are darkened. Remaining contents including plates are clean and intact.

Original brown cloth with gilt titles to spine. Spine faded, gilt a little dulled, crack in the cloth at the rear joint, with some light and faint staining to the rear board. Spine ends and corners a little bumped, interiors fresh and almost entirely unopened. Presentation slip from the British Museum tipped-in at the front hinge. Coloured plates in fine condition. A nice copy. From the library of Harry G. Lumsfeld, biologist and research scientist with Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources. In 2004 Harry Lumsfeld became a Member of the Order of Canada for his outstanding contribution to wildlife management and conservation.

Original blind stamped cloth with gilt title on the spine. = Rare part of a large series, but the only volume dealing with the groups mentioned in the title. With fine chromolithographed plates by the famous Dutch bird painters John Gerrard Keulemans and Joseph Smit. Top of spine a bit frayed, endpapers cracked in gutters. Pictorial bookplate and stamp on front pastedown, stamp on title page verso, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Nissen IVB, 175; 838; Zimmer, pp. 95-98, 584.

Containing the Families Coraciae (contin.) and Halcyones by R. Bowdler Sharpe and Bucerotes and Trogones by R Ogilvie Grant. Seventeen hand-colored lithographs by J. Keulemans. The complete work published in 27 volumes (1874-1898) provided a detailed description of every bird with synonomy and distribution. Each volume included a section of color plates. 'Unquestionably the most important work on systematic ornithology that has ever been published.' -Zimmer.

London: Order of the Trustees, 1912. 1st Edition . Very scarce complete five-volume set, published in 1901, 1902, 1903, 1905 and 1912, respectively. Very good plus in original light brown cloth with slight shelf wear and a touch of soiling. "Presented by the Trustees of The British Museum" label affixed to front pastedown or flyleaf of each volume. Bindings firm, with gilt titles on spines bright and clean. Cataloguing 3,890 bird species represented by nearly 70,000 types of eggs; included are 79 full-page color plates. A beautiful set.
