SIxmo size, 68 pp., with dust jacket and original slipcase. Limited Edition of 1000 copies, unnumbered. Western Classics no. 2, originally published in 1871 in a San Francisco newspaper, this is actually a classic and highly-regarded work of fantasy. Printed by John Henry Nash at the Tomoye Press for Paul Elder and Company.
___DESCRIPTION: Bound in brown laid paper boards with a white parchment shelfback, gilt lettering on the front and spine, top edge gilt, brown laid paper endpapers, brown satin ribbon marker, tissue-guarded frontispiece a photogravure from an oil painting by Galen J. Perrett; sixmo size (approximately 6.5" tall), pagination: (i-iv) being the preliminary pages, i-vi the introduction, sectional half-title with verso blank, 1-54, blank, colophon; typography designed by John Henry Nash, printed on Fabriano handmade paper. The dust jacket of matching brown laid paper, black lettering on the front and spine (note that the jacket is not clipped, although there is no printed price); the slipcase is also covered in brown paper, white paper spine label with black lettering.
___CONDITION: Volume could almost be called fine, it has a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, the original ribbon marker is present, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings; a hint of darkening to the spine, a few very small holes at the joints and rear hinge, else fine. The dust jacket is near fine with one short (about one-half inch) closed tear at the top of the front panel, some sunning to the spine, minor overall edgewear. The slipcase is also near fine, strong and sturdy, minor wear on the spine and minor soiling to the spine label.
