About This Item

circa, [1890's]., [1890's].. Good. - Toedt's autograph on creamy white 1-1/4 inch high by 3-1/4 inch wide paper is mounted on heavier card stock. He has inscribed "Yours truly" and signed his name "Theo. J Toedt". The paper is unevenly darkened along the top and left edges. Good.

The American tenor Theodore Toedt (1855-1920) was best known as a boy soprano. He was a boy chorister at Trinity Church in New York City. His principal number was "Robert, toi que j'aime" from Meyerbeer's ROBERT LE DIABLE which he sang at age 16 in a concert at The Brooklyn Academy of Music. A contemporary review stated that the piece was given with "the fire and spirit of an accomplished prima donna".

A RARE autograph.
