THIS RESPONSE WILL BE DELETED IN FOLLOWING EDITIONS. TITLE PAGE ILLUSTRATED, FULL-PAGE PORTRAIT OF MARX ACCOMPANIED BY HIS SCRATCH, TITLE PAGE FROM FIRST DELIVERY, FACSIMILE OF KARL MARX'S LETTER, CHAPTER ADS PRINTED INSIDE BEAUTIFUL FRAMES AND BEAUTIFUL CULS-DE -LAMP; ALL ENGRAVED ON WOOD. 1 PORTRAIT. THIS TRANSLATION BY J. ROY, FROM THE SECOND GERMAN EDITION, HAS BEEN ENTIRELY REVISED BY THE AUTHOR. IT WAS PUBLISHED IN DELIVERIES BETWEEN AUGUST 1872 AND MAY 1875. THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL TEXT WHICH DRIVED THE GREAT GERMAN THINKERS TO MODIFY THE WRITING, MAKE ADDITIONS AND CRITICISMS AS IT WAS RELEASED (CF. ON THIS SUBJECT HIS NOTICE TO THE READER, DATED FROM LONDON ON APRIL 28, 1875 - P. 348). ALL THESE MODIFICATIONS WERE RETAINED FOR THE FOLLOWING EDITIONS AND IN PARTICULAR FOR THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION. FURTHERMORE, NOTE THAT THIS TRANSLATION CONTAINS THE ONLY PART OF THE CAPITAL ENTIRELY WRITTEN BY MARX AND PUBLISHED ALIVE: DEVELOPMENT OF CAPITALIST PRODUCTION (P. 13 ET FOLLOWING). IN HIS LETTER, MARX APPLAUSES THE EDITOR'S INITIATIVE TO PUBLISH BY DELIVERIES, BECAUSE HIM "IN THIS FORM WILL BE MORE ACCESSIBLE TO THE WORKING CLASS". IN FACT, FEW BOOKS IN THE HISTORY OF HUMANITY HAVE KNOWN SUCH A CONSIDERABLE INFLUENCE. "THIS FRENCH EDITION HAS A SCIENTIFIC VALUE INDEPENDENT OF THE ORIGINAL AND MUST BE CONSULTED EVEN BY READERS FAMILY OF THE GERMAN LANGUAGE." (NOTICE TO READER, APRIL 28, 1875). London: J. Johnson, 1792. 2nd edition. Leather bound. Very good. 8vo. Contemporary embossed calf. Marbled edges. [xix], [1], 452 pp. Boards are detached, and top layer of leather missing from spine. Text block is near fine, with no foxing and only a few dark spots of tanning in margins. Pages are bright and crisp. 7 instances of pencilled underlining or brackets, otherwise the text is completely clean. From the library of noted collector Edward Hailstone, with his leather armorial bookplate inside front cover. "D. of Grafton, 1793" is signed on title page, which was George Henry FitzRoy, the 4th Duke of Grafton. This copy is listed in the "Catalogue of the Interesting Contents of Walton Hall, Near Wakefield; The Property of the Late Edward Hailstone" (Hailstone, 1891, Item #2663), which mentions Grafton's signature. This is a second edition of the foundational text of feminism and the women's rights movement, with a near fine text block and a fascinating provenance. (PMM 242).

A very good run of the first five volumes from the New Series of this very rare botanical. Complete with 240 handcoloured botanical plates by Worthington George Smith (212) and Frederick William Burbidge (28)
Flowers include many species of elegant orchids, roses, camellias, dahlias, hyacinths, rhododendrons, pansies, geraniums, and many other popular Victorian garden flowers.
Bernard Quaritch in a General Catalogue of Books in 1874 praises the series for its "beautifully coloured plates" and notes it was already "very scarce."
Five volumes edited by Henry Honywood Dombrain (1,2), Worthington George Smith (3,4) and Frederick William Burbidge (5), published from 1872 to 1876. (Volumes 11 to 15 in the complete series).
The Floral Magazine launched in 1861 and introduced exotic flowers from tropical lands as well as hybrids raised in British nurseries. The lithographic plates were dynamic, full-page botanical illustrations in large format Royal or Imperial Octavo size. Unlike the French and… Read More

This important work is a large expansion of his 1824 publication which was the first serious study of Genghis Khan.
