Chronicle Files, 1962. Original b/w single weight press photograph of burlesque and mob moll dancer Candy Barr, seen here in Western top, curled hair, smiling and playing snare w/ brush drumsticks. While the image is charming the caption beneath is less than flattering, poking at her parole denial (1962) from "Goree Prison Farm for Women on narcotics possession charge." The editorial caption was purloined from an API story and seems unrelated to the fuzzy feeling that comes from the image, possibly the image was captured years earlier, and may have been first available to the Texas officials at the time of her incarceration. Exactly when during the late 1950s she was a jazz/marching band drummer while not stripping in Texas nightclubs is uncertain. 8 x 10 inches, 2 large white borders, image 4.5 x 7.5 inches, slightly askew, and "File" in red pencil in the border. Chronicle Files rubberstamp and 11-1962 in ink on the verso. Very Good Plus, faint wrinkles overall, a few faint creases, light soil to verso.
