Signed and inscribed by Fred Rosenstock (the publsiher) to Donald Beaty Bloch (an eminent author and book collector) whose book plate "The Donad Beaty Block Collection" is on the ffe. The first book published by Rosenstock's Old West Publishing. A newspaper article about "Early Theaters and Saloons of Denver" laid in.
A well-written social history of the thousands of gold-seekers and emigrants who flocked to Colorado with the discovery of gold on Cherry Creek and Pike's Peak in 1859. It tells of the entertainments sought by the gold-seekers; theater in log structures or in gambling houses and eventually in elegant theaters and opera houses. It is a history of Western theater all the way from Colorado, to Virginia City, NV to San Francisco, CA, and the nationally famous actors and actresses who trod the boards in those places.

A bit of scattered foxing in the text, else near fine in very near fine dust jacket with a shallow sliver from the crown. Inscribed by the author "For Barrett H. Clark with the sincere thanks and appreciation for many kindnesses. May our idea for a real history of the American Theatre be Realized. Melvin H. Schoberlin." Clark was a board member of the Theatre Guild and was the executive director of the Dramatists Play Service and Samuel French, the foremost publisher's of plays in the 20th Century. A nice association.
