The author was a Lieutnenant of the Scots Guards, with much campaigning experience leading native troops. A fine military memoir of British empire building in the late 19th Century. Pages xxvii, 320 with a publisher's book catalogue at the end. Original very good green cloth with three Nigerian soldiers on the front board in gilt, and a bright gilt title on the spine. A small 1/8 inch tear at the top of the spine, and very slight wear at the corners. Prior owner book plate. Clean and tight inside and out. A rather scarce book, only one other listed in the U.S. on the internet, at this writing. Protected in a clear, mylar dustjacket. In 1901,Vandeleur was shot dead during a train ambush in South Africa, the Boer war. See also Col. Maxse's book, Seymour Vandeleur, the Story of a British Officer.

The condition is a bit rough with corners bent and curling, some pencil marks to the front cover and a note one page indicating the previous owner's relation to one of the airmen. Small softcover book, signed and inscribed by the author on the half title in Polish in the year of publication. Wear at the edges and corners and a crease spineward to the front cover from being opened and read. Binding solid and all pages clean and unmarked. All wear is external. Text in Polish. 62 pp., some black and white photos from World War II. The author became an engineer for NASA and lived in Ohio at the time of the publication of this book. He was a recipient of Poland's equivalant of our Medal of Honor.
