New York: Chinese Vanguard, 1936. 14x8.5 inch handbill, mimeographed text on one side, creased from folding, year penned unobtrusively in corner. Aside from a header in English, the indentification of Curran, and a list of striking ships at the bottom, the text is in Chinese. "Please give this call to your Chinese shipmates! Discuss with them about their problems! Bring them into the strike front! This is the way to smash the attempt of the shipowners to use the Chinese seamen as scabs!" The Chinese text, a translated message from Curran specifically targeting Chinese speaking seamen in New York, states that the owners are trying to use racial division to undermine the strike, but that joining and winning victory for the International Seamen's Union would mean victory for Chinese seamen too, with increased wages and protections. The reader is urged to contact the Chinese Seamen's Club and the Chinese Vanguard, a weekly publication based at 37 East 12th Street.
