One of 550 copies, unnumbered, Second Series of Rare Americana, No. 4, quarto size, 60 pp. This collection of miscellany was carefully selected to give an honest and authentic viewpoint of the early mining days in California from the perspective of the average man, unprepossessing and more often than not, unsuccessful.

Published by the Grabhorn Press, one of the most highly renowned private presses in America in the twentieth century, run by brothers Edwin and Robert Grabhorn; the material for this book was culled from their collection.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in burgundy paper boards with gold lettering and decorative border on front and back, burgundy cloth spine with burgundy paper label with gold lettering, title printed in black and brown, eleven brown illustrated initials designed by Arvilla Parker, frontispiece and two full-page lithographs reproduced in colour, fifteen other reproductions of maps, broadsides, letter paper, and lithographs; hand-set Garamond on machine-made paper, quarto size (11 1/8" by 7 3/4"), 60 pp., one of 550 copies, unnumbered, one of the Fifty Books of the Year, Second Series of Rare Americana, No. 4.

___CONDITION: Better than very good, the boards clean, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, collated complete, all pages and reproductions in clean and bright condition, and entirely free of prior owner markings; the corners lightly rubbed, extremely minor wear to the board edges, and a few light, stray marks on the boards.
