An examination of passenger cable cars, as utilized in San Francisco starting in the 1890s by several companies there who operated numerous lines. The authors describe the workings of the systems of underground cables to propel the cars up the steep hills of the city. With several black & white photos and drawings. --- In brown paper-covered boards with gilt image of a cable car to front cover, gilt spine titling. Volume wrapped in brown jacket with views of San Francisco and cable cars to covers. --- A very nice copy, tightly-bound and bright though with pencilings to front free endpaper and slight edge wear. Unclipped jacket with a few creases, else in great shape.; Oblong Octavo (8 to 9 in. tall); (8), 152 pages .
