Numbered in pencil on verso, and with "Karsh, Ottawa" credit label and agency label of Rapho Guillumette. About fine. An original print of one of the sequence of superb photographs taken by Yousuf Karsh on location in South Africa during the filming of the 1964 Diamond Films production, ZULU, directed by Cy Endfield. Karsh's invitation to join the production and photograph the cast and locale resulted in a sequence of photographs of a very high order. The present image is a strong half-length portrait of two Zulu warriors in tribal dress, including a visible shield, spear and two staffs, against the background of the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains. Includes images of the great Communist leaders past and present, and their written works with many quoting either Lenin or Engels. Most cite the earlier days of the proletarian efforts by Lopatine, Lavrov, Vera Zassoulitch, Arnold Ruge, the 1864 London meeting of the First International, the Paris Commune rising in 1871, Marx's expulsion from Germany in 1849, Cologne trial of Communists in 1852, Karl Marx's graduation certificate from college, the Paris insurrection of 1848, suspension of "la Gazette Rhenane," in Cologne (1849) a joint effort by Marx and Engels, et al. A few corners chipped or creased. Very good.

Edward Brerewood was a 16th-century English known for his famous book 'Enquiries Touching the Diversity of Languages and Religion'. This book was one of the most important and influential books on the origin of language and linguistics. This work; however, was not without controversy. Brerewood theorized that Native Americans were decedents of Russian Turks; a notion that was not well-received by all linguists.

According to Bell,
"Besides presenting the religions of the world and the areas dominated by them, Brerewood discusses the size and populations of little-known regions and even speculates on the size of the Great Southern Continent."

Historic images of buildings, churches, residences, landscapes, waterfalls, and mills in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Originally published in twelve parts which have been bound together here in one volume in a library binding. The boards show moderate wear, heavier along the edges with the corners worn through. A library marking has been rubbed off of the lower spine. The binding is strong. The text block is tight and lightly soiled. There is a blind stamp on the title page reading "Princeton Univ Bibl." No other internal markings. The text and high quality gravure plates are remarkably well-preserved and clean throughout. Typically found incomplete and extremely scarce in any form. Photos are of the actual book you will receive. Ships wrapped in bubble wrap and packed with care in a box.

This 1914 map of now popular wine country Napa County, California shows the county in 1914, with early roads, largely undeveloped, vast open land areas, and natural features. The numbered grid system on this map reflects the Public Land Survey System. Large open tracts of land are identified as ranches, such as Rancho Catacoula, or Rancho Las Putas, Rancho LaJota all of which are large swaths of undivided land. Urban grids are shown in the southernmost part of Napa County, and sections of the southernmost sections of Sonoma County and Solano County. The cities of Petaluma, Sonoma, Vallejo and Napa and Benicia show populated urban areas. A corner of Marin County is shown.

One printed page, 8" x 12", New Braunfels, February 28, 1855, granting the "German Emigration Company . . . six hundred and forty acres of land, as a part of the Premium lands secured to them by the laws of the Republic and State of Texas." Certificate number 15. Signed with Meusebach's printed signature. Printed on blue paper. Minor stains and edge toning, else very good.
In 1845 and 1846, German citizens were promised land by the Adelsverein (German Emigration Company; or the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas) if they emigrated to Texas, in part, to rid Germany of surplus rural inhabitants. John Meusebach (1812-1897), a German noble, was appointed second commissioner general for Texas for the Adelsverein charged with the allocation of 500 acres of land.
