About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1938. Hardcover. 241p., first American edition cloth boards in dj; review copy with worn slip laid in, along with a printed note from the publisher responding to accusations by a British peer that Vilaplana lied about his recent past. Bright casebinding, but the jacket is badly foxed, slightly muskey, good only. The author, an early supporter of the Nationalist cause and its Commissioner of Justice in Burgos, became revolted by the franquist administration of justice and fled the country. Translated by W. Horsfall Carter.
