London : John Van Voorst, 1876 A very good copy in green decorative cloth binding with hand coloured frontispiece, and a further 91 plates, of which 89 are hand coloured. A classic flora with illustrations by John Sowerby, produced and revised at a time when there was a fascination with identifying and categorising new species. The binding has gilt titles and decoration with blind stamped design to the boards, which have bevelled edges, and elaborate gilt titles and design to the spine. It has been rebacked with new endpapers, so is sound and tight. There is wear to corners and edges. Aeg. Contents with frontispiece; title; preliminaries xlix; text with 80 hand coloured and 2 plain plates 160 pp; appendix by J W Salter pp 161-170 with 5 plates; supplement on ferns and fern allies by J E Sowerby pp 171-178 with 4 plates; index 179-186.
