New York: Grosset & Dunlap. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1940. Hardcover. Black cloth stamped in red along the spine. A bump to the bottom corner. The red topstain has scattered spots of rubbing. A smudge to the bottom page edges. Owner name and date from 1944 on the free endpaper. The black and white illustrated dust jacket has a chip to the top of the spine. Chipping to the corners, and a closed tear to the front panel. A presentable copy of this high spot of noir. The basis for the Francois Truffaut movie featuring Jeanne Moreau. ; 210 pages .
