Chatto & Windus, London, 1939. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition/Poor. foreword by author. Black-and-white illustrated frontispiece, showing Louise Hollandina. Red coloured cloth covered boards with white embossed illustration to the front panel and white coloured titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper, of Montrose's coat of arms, against a white coloured background with blue and yellow coloured titles to the front panel. The story of Montrose and Louise during the years of 1649-1650. Bumping to the backstrip and to the lower book corners, with underlying board visible. Fading to the backstrip and there has been light fading to the book panels. Along the front edge of the front panel the board has come into contact with moisture and the colour of the cloth has become muted and rubbed. Browning and foxing of the text block edges. Browning and light foxing of the endpapers. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. The dustwrapper is truly atrocious. The dustwrapper is now in three component parts, with the backstrip being represented by a 2 inch sections from the lower edge. The results of insect activity can be seen along the front and rear of fold over panels edges with holes and splits quite noticeable. Browning to the dustwrapper panels along with some stains. A few tears along the dustwrapper edges. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. X, 432 pages, last page blank,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1.
