About This Item

NY: Harcourt, Brace & Company. Good with no dust jacket; Boards worn, water spot on front boards, spine cracked, some light fingersoiling.. 1935. First Edition. Hardcover. Red cloth binding. Vibrant illustrations by the author. Though she is best known for her soothing titles like Pat the Bunny and Junket is Nice, this bizarre and terrifying tale involves a little boy named Billy Buckingham who climbs a tree dressed in his American Indian costume to avoid having his loose tooth pulled out by a string by his mother. His maternal uncle spins a tale about a brave Native American named Mr. Buckingham who endures dismemberment by various accidents until he is only a disembodied head being spoonfed strawberries by his Caucasian granddaughter. Makes Struwwelpeter seem tame. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
