About This Item

Boston, MA: Adams & Holden, Printers, 1829. 39 x 50 cm. Editor's Correspondence from Washington is tart and spicy, loaded with sarcasm against the Jackson administration, and twitting Boston political appointees under the John Quincy Adams administration who now are probably on their way back north. Rep. Edward Everett of Massachusetts has been demoted in the Foreign Affairs Committee. Column is dripping with anti-Jackson sarcasm. ""At a time when to be an illiterate booby is no obstacle to advancement."" Whig cynicism seems to match Democratic sarcasm about George W. Bush in a later century. Advertisement with illustration for Christmas & New Year's Presents-- E.V. Ashton of Washington street has just rerceived 100 rich Boston carved shell combs, from $5 to $16 each, and 300 India carved shell combs, from $2 to $10 each, also tortoise shell combs and neck shell combs. Newspaper, small holes in folds, good. Inscription on top of page one ""G. Wilkinson"". . Catalogs: Newspapers.
