""At a time when to be an illiterate booby is no obstacle to advancement."" Whig cynicism seems to match Democratic sarcasm about George W. Bush in a later century. Advertisement with illustration for Christmas & New Year's Presents-- E.V. Ashton of Washington street has just rerceived 100 rich Boston carved shell combs, from $5 to $16 each, and 300 India carved shell combs, from $2 to $10 each, also tortoise shell combs and neck shell combs.
