About This Item

Collins Harvill, London, 1988. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Gray coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper, being a reproduction of Ricardo Cinalli's work "Premonition II" with red coloured titles to the front panel and red and white coloured titles to the backstrip. Black-and-white photograph of the author and his partner Roger Horwitz to the rear dustwrapper panel. On October 22, 1986, Paul Monette's partner Roger Horwitz died from the complications of AIDS, 19 months and 10 days after his initial diagnosis. This book is a very personal memoir of that initial diagnosis, medical treatments, ailments and hospitalisations of Roger Horwitz until his final blindness and death. As the front panel blurb says "It is a story told quite without sensationalism, a cry from an angry, pained heart that makes it impossible for anyone to go on thinking that this calamity is a matter of "us" against "them". Borrowed Time speaks to all readers – lovers and friends, gay and straight, the sick and the sound – about how to live with honesty and devotion, to fight for life and, finally, to die with dignity and grace." Softening to the head and to the heel of the backstrip with age toning of the textblock edges. A little creasing to the dustwrapper edges and rubbing to the dustwrapper panels. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [8], 342, [2] pages.. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo.
