Bright, clean, square and tight. Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Fresh and crisp -- obviously never read. 1979 reprint of the 1946 originals. Volume 1: xxi, 251pp.+ 92 plates; Volume 2: vi, 406pp. A classic bookbinding history and treatise on binding practice; the first volume being devoted to the history and the second to the technique of bookbinding. In addition to 92 plates (mostly of bindings) at the end of volume 1, there are 242 figures (line drawings by Edna M. Kaula) in the text of volume 2. The two volumes are uniformly bound in pale yellow pictorial cloth with gold and black spine lettering. A full wrap-around scene from an early bookbindery (17th or 18th century?) appears in black on the covers of both volumes. This heavy 2 volume set will require extra postage for Priority and International shipments.
