Description:
London: John Murray, 1908. Lady Augusta (Isabella) Gregory (1852-1932) was an excellent playwright and folklorist, as well as the major patron of the Irish Literary Renaissance. She was a founder of the Abbey Theatre in 1904 and co-directed it, along with John M. Synge and William Butler Yeats. This is a Very Good copy of the Second Printing (January 1908) of the First Trade Edition (October 1907). Light green paper-covered covers with a green linen spine and paper label. Clean text; 212 pages with two pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. Gift inscription (1920) on the FFEP. Mildly bumped. There is a vertical crease on the spine, and the front gutter is under a bit of strain, though holding well. These issues are commonly seen due to the heavy and stiff paper stock that Murray used; the book remains sound. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Second Printing.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Dundrum: Dun Emer Press,, 1906. Signed by Yeats and Lady Gregory First edition, first impression, one of 200 copies only. This uncommon Dun Emer title is signed by both Yeats and Lady Gregory and scarce thus, especially untouched and in such good condition. Yeats and Gregory were key co-agitators in keeping Irish folklore at the heart of the Irish Revival. This collection of stories of "Saints and Wonders" characterises the blurred boundaries between Christian and Pagan tales drawn from Ireland's deep past. Lily and Elizabeth Yeats's press was originally named "for Miss [Evelyn] Gleeson's home in Dundrum, near Dublin, where it was established in company with embroidery and rug making" (Ransom, p. 92). They printed 11 titles under this imprint, which was renamed the Cuala Press in 1908, after the Gaelic name of the south Dublin area before the Norman conquest. The press's "clearly legible, slender volumes with their distinctive paper labels may be seen as the sole survivors of the handcrafted ideal…
