About This Item

Oxford: Printed at the Clarendon Press, [and London: printed by Charles Rivington],, 1781 [& 1772]. A very attractive Book of Common Prayer and Psalms, in a personalized Georgian binding, the spine lettered for one "Thomas Hales Deptford", the covers resplendent with the Christogram "JHS" within richly gilt red and green onlays; a pleasing example of the expense and care dedicated to the binding of Books of Common Prayer in the period. 2 works in 1 one volume, octavo (210 x 126 mm). Contemporary green sheep, spine lettered in gilt, gilt to compartments, gilt foliate and beaded panels to covers enclosing elaborate gilt centrepieces incorporating red and green sheep onlays, serrated gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, gilt edges. Joints and spine ends expertly and discreetly repaired, contents foxed and occasionally a little closely cropped, small chip not affecting text to first book leaf Ll4; an excellent copy. ESTC T166750 & T91923.
