Bob Dylan, An Intimate Biography by Scaduto, Anthony - 1971

Journalist Anthony Scaduto’s 1971 biography of Bob Dylan, from early childhood to superstar, the result of hundreds of hours of intimate conversations with Dylan’s contemporaries. After obtaining and reading a rough draft of the original manuscript, Dylan is reported to have phoned Scaduto saying, "some of it is pretty straight, some of it is very straight, and some of it is exactly the way it happened... I like your book, that’s the weird thing about it," then went on to invite the author to his Greenwich Village apartment for a rare interview at which he divulged previously withheld personal information, such as how the Beatles’ music moved him from folk to rock, insights into the Doomsday Poems he had written between 1964 and 1966, and his rejection of the roles of radical prophet, guru, and messiah into which he had unwillingly been cast by the public, claiming all he had ever really wanted to do was to become "bigger than Elvis Presley." A fascinating and revealing book, pre-dating Dylan’s 2004 autobiography, "Chronicles" by thirty three years. Very Good, in a Very Good dust jacket that has two small (3/4") closed edge tears, and a small (3/8") chip in the blank area at the top left corner of the rear panel, not affecting titles or graphics. Clean, crisp, bright, corners sharp, binding tight, sound, and square, no ownership signatures or any other markings of any kind, not price-clipped. A very nice copy.
