About This Item
New York: Grosset & Dunlap, n.y.. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Pale blue paper over boards with dark blue lettering and decorations, pictorial dust jacket. 306pp. Line drawings. Near fine/very good. Jacket mildly edgeworn, with some miniscule edge chips (mainly at spine head/tail). Handsome reprint (undated but circa 1940s) of this 1898 drama about "Owd Bob" the sheepdog set in northern England, the "Illustrated Edition" -- and this special copy with choice autograph addition. In 1947 a film version titled "Thunder in the Valley" was released, and front flyleaf of this copy bears a fine heavy stock 4" X 3" card signed boldly by that film's star, LON McCALLISTER (1923-2005), who signs handsome in brown fineline and dates it 9 September 1982 at upper right. Laid in is the perfect bookmark, too: McCallister's original transmittal envelope.
