Originally published in 1947, Millar's third book and the last before he began using the pen name he made famous, features a returning Army veteran, Johnny Weather, who comes home to find his father murdered and then starts a crusade to clean up a corrupt city; introduction by Robert B. Parker. Boards' bottom corners slightly bumped, o/w text is clean, tight, square; dustjacket worn with minor chipping and tearing at spine ends, corners and edges, a partially visible damp ring on front panel, other minor surface wear.
Synopsis
Ross Macdonald’s real name was Kenneth Millar. Born near San Francisco in 1915 and raised in Ontario, Millar returned to the U.S. as a young man and published his first novel in 1944. He served as the president of the Mystery Writers of America and was awarded their Grand Master Award as well as the Mystery Writers of Great Britain's Gold Dagger Award. He died in 1983.
