Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Overall a good condition item. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Clipped jacket has moderate edgewear with chips, tears, and creasing. Medium tanning to spine and edges. Wear marks and foxing overall.

Ryan spent two years in a Gold Coast port where her husband was involved in the timber trade. The growth of political consciousness was awakening in the locals and it altered, for good, the former subservience of Black to White. And it seemed that both races accepted the change without much difficulty, unlike most of the other places in Africa where the same changes were happening. Ryan gets right to the heart of the matter: how life in West Africa had changed for the Europeans. In overall good used condition in a fair dj with some minor signs of age, handling and storage - dj generally rubbed with several small chips to edges and spine a touch faded; black cloth boards rubbed to edges. Internally clean. Binding tight and appears little read; no annotations or inscriptions - owner’s bookplate to reverse of ffep; toning and slight spotting to page-ends but text, illustrations and maps to endpapers bright and clear throughout. Not an old library book.
