Scarce first American edition with 4 copies located on Worldcat. The London Spectator in 1839 included the first (i.e. British) edition in its list of books for Christmas presents stating it contained "sketches of common life, and traits of childish character . . . and pathetic stories, written with talent, and in a manner to interest youthful readers." 24mo. 162pp. + 8 leaves of plates. In publisher's green cloth with blind borders stamped in blind on boards, title and decoration stamped in gilt on spine. Allibone pg. 2495 and NCBEL III 1101 for the British edition. Not in Wolff or Sadleir.
