Contents page, No Index.* Description: This is one in the ?Black?s Water-Colour Series? containing 16 full page art-paper reproductions in colour of water-colours by Myles Birket Foster 1825-1899. He was an illustrator and wood-engraver for Punch, The Illustrated London News and other publications. He later found work as a book illustrator and turned to water-colours. He was an Associate of the Watercolour Society and exhibited at the Royal Academy travelling widely in Europe and producing numerous landscapes but later became well known for his sentimentalised view of the contemporary English countryside. He died on 27 March 1899. His obituary in The Times referred to him as "certainly the most popular water-colour artist of our time".* A GD copy of the 1st. thus with some age & wear.*
