Impressive b&w photolithographic print, the Supplement to Harper's Weekly (dated January 13, 1900), showing the City of Manila during the US military government of the Philippines, from 1898 to 1902. A caption at the top notes, "Bilibid Prison and Block House No. 1 where the Fight started"; the military Governor's Palace is also shown (General Otis). There were frequent uprisings at the overcrowded military prison with the intent to kill American guards. Seen in the foreground are the city with the Pasig River plied by many ships at the center foreground, along with the Chinese Quarter, the Escolta, the Light house, the Typhoon Signal Station and the Luneta. Drawn by G.W. Peters, and signed at the lower right. Image 28 1/4 x 13 1/2"; paper 31 1/2 x 16 1/4". Splits at outer edges of folds, with split at upper left fold affecting the print in the sky; small chips at lower corners not affecting print.
