Amsterdam: S. J. Baalde, 1779. Very good +. Hand colored copper plate engraving measuring 9.25" x 11.5" depicting a grouping of 6 moths or butterflies. This plate illustrates Male and female Janus and an Egeus. There is descriptive text fully describing the insects in German and French, and a copy of a title page, in an envelope attached to the back of the mat. Exquisitely colored and finely detailed. This print is matted with acid free materials and shrink wrapped. The plate is not hinged, but is floated with acetate corners. This print has a few spots and a faint smudge in the background. There are reflections of the room in the shrink wrap which distort the photo. The print is uniform in condition with the few flaws noted. Quite scarce.
