Burgundy title block with faded gold lettering. Inscription on blank endpaper reads, 'Marley Barrett, Chillicothe, Ohio Jany1st, 1898'. This copy had been in the same family since that time until my purchase. There are no other markings. Pages are foxed but quite readable, binding is firm. 267 pages. HOWES "THE AUTHOR KNEW PERSONALLY ALL OF THESE BORDER INDIAN FIGHTERS AND PARTICIPATED IN MANY OF THE EVENTS DESCRIBED". EBERSTADT "THE AUTHOR HAD THE ADVANTAGE OF PERSONAL COMMUNICATION WITH THE FAMILIES AND NEIGHTBORS OF THESE INDIAN FIGHTERS, AND THUS SECURED MANY DETAILS OF THEIR EXPLOITS AMONG THE SAVAGES WHICH WOULD OTHERWISE HAVE BEEN LOST.' FIELD 1436 (1852 ED.); SABIN 43160; JONES 1283 (1852 ED.) CONTAINS THE CAPTIVITIES OF ANDRES WLLISON IN 1793 AND THAT OF ISRAEL DONALSON IN 1792.
