323 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 14") bound in original publisher's orange cloth with green lettering to spine and cover with decorative ruled edge in original pictorial jacket. (McIlvaine A33b) First edition.
Bill the Conqueror (subtitled His Invasion of England in the Springtime) is a novel by P.G. Wodehouse, first published in the United Kingdom on 13 November 1924 by Methuen & Co, London, and in the United States on 20 February 1925 by George H. Doran, New York, the story having previously been serialized in The Saturday Evening Post from 24 May to 12 July 1924.
The cast includes the recurring characters Sir George Pyke (later Lord Tilbury), publishing magnate and founder of the Mammoth Publishing Company (who would later visit Blandings Castle in Heavy Weather (1933)), and his subordinate Percy Pilbeam. Sir George was disappointed in his son, he was not a chip off the old block and lacked the aggressive drive required of a business tycoon. So why not marry him off to Felicia she has plenty of spark and could manage any man, all was going well until the arrival from New York of Bill West.
Condition:
Spine lightly faded, fore-edge with a few spots, end-papers toned, front free endpaper with previous owner's inscription erased. Jacket in the original dust jacket with light foxing to front panel, edges professionally restored.
