About This Item
Merlin Press Jointly with End, London, 1982. Third Impression. Softcover (Stiff Boards). Good/No Dust Jacket. 36 pages, author's note. Photographic front cover, showing American and Russian soldiers shaking hands, against a blue background with red, black and white writing to the front panel. Rubbing and creasing to the book corners. The edges of the book have become slightly warm. Rubbing, light chipping and fading to the back strip area. The panels have become slightly faded and marked. In 1981 the author was asked to deliver the Dimbleby Lecture, but due to perceived sensitivity of the lecture the BBC cancelled the broadcasting of the lecture. This booklet is not the actual lecture that he was going to give for the BBC but a corrected and extended to version which was delivered at Worcester City Guildhall on November 26, 1981. In the lecture Mr Thomson " ... is questioning the fundamental condition of contemporary life, the Cold War and the adversary posture of the two blocs. His analysis of our current predicament will, we believe, help the process of both disturbing peace and of restoring freedom to Europe." From the back panel. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
