Raised bands with six compartments. title in gilt on spine.The Best Letters of Lady Mary Wortley Montagu. Edited by Octave Thanet, better known as Alice French, an American novelist. Lady Mary Wortley Montagu found fame in her letters, particuarly those written abroad. Her writings on Turkey and the Orient are especially well regarded. Recently, Wortley Montagu has gained attention for her attitude towards women's rights in the early eighteenth century, becoming an early feminist figure. Edited with a dedicatory letter to Lady Montagu.
