About This Item
First edition, first Harper & Row printing of Sylvia Plath's seminal work of fiction, THE BELL JAR. Book is encased in plastic. Two small tears on the dust jacket, on the top and bottom left hand corners. A small inscription inside, as noted in the photos.
Synopsis
The Bell Jar is writer and poet Sylvia Plath's only novel, which was originally published under the pseudonym "Victoria Lucas" in 1963. The novel is semi-autobiographical with the names of places and people changed. The book is often regarded as a roman à clef, with the protagonist's descent into mental illness paralleling Plath's own experiences with what may have been either bipolar disorder or clinical depression. Plath committed suicide a month after its first publication.
