London : Bell and Daldy, 1872 A near fine copy of the Bell and Daldy edition of this beautiful work, with frontispiece and 59 further colour-printed plates. The plates in this edition are highlighted with gum arabic, and in 4 plates, with gilt lines. The book is in a newer full buckram binding with gilt title label to spine. The binding is in fine condition. New thick paper endpapers have been added with new blanks. Contents: frontispiece with tissue guard; title; dedication; contents; introduction; text with description and text figure of the whole plant interleaved with colour plates of the leaves; addenda. The contents are in near fine condition, being exceptionally clean with high quality plates - the highlighting for example on plate 60 gives an extraordinary depth of colour. There is light spotting at the end of the work in the addenda section and a couple of small ink marks on the tissue guard to plate 45.

Purple cloth-covered boards; gilt illustration and blind embossed decorations and borders on front, blind embossed illustration and borders on rear, gilt decorations and titles on spine. 4to. A large and heavy volume requiring an additional charge for overseas delivery. Sun-fading and light soiling to boards. Spine sun-faded, spine ends rubbed and rounded with some <1cm splits in cloth. Corners heavily rubbed and rounded. Text block edges tanned, top edge dusty and untrimmed. Slightly cocked. Gutters stretched. Tissue-guards tanned in shape of illustrations on plates. Prelims have light foxing. Page margins tanning. Pages 1-5 partly detached. 4cm tear on fore-edge of pare 127/8, top edge of last few pages appear to have separated (quite carefully; only minor damage).…
