About This Item
NY: The Dial Press, 1974., 1974. First printing. 8vo. 197 pp. Original gilt and silver stamped orange cloth binding. The book has two slender lines of white paper/glue/abrasion on the pastedowns ostensibly from the removal of a dust jacket protector which had been affixed there at some point. There is a small light brown splash stain on pp. 6 & 7 near the center. Other than these obvious flaws, the book is tight and the orange cloth is bright and unmarked, overall very good minus. The DJ is bright, with light flap wrinkles else fine. Surprisingly uncommon.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included.
Synopsis
If Beale Street Could Talk, James Baldwin's fifth novel is a love story set in Harlem in the early 70's. Young Tish and Fonny, who are in love and expecting a child. They plan on marrying until Fonny is falsely accused of a terrible crime and imprisoned. Their tragic love story paints a bleak picture of racism and injustice. It is the only Baldwin novel narrated by a woman.
