Description:
Clevelan: Arthur Westbrook, 1899. 30,[2]pp. including publisher's advertisements on last printed page. Original pictorial wrappers. Color (on front wrapper) rich and fresh, small pencil annotation ("48A") on front wrapper, wrappers closely trimmed at bottom and left edge of rear wrapper (just touching a few printed characters). A near fine copy. Issue number 48 of The Deadwood Dick Library, published by the Arthur Westbrook Company in 1899 following the original issues published by Beadle and Adams. The adventures of the cowboy Deadwood Dick are well-represented by the action-packed "tri-color" cover with the caption "Drew received a blow across the face that flattened him to the ground." The 64 titles of the complete Deadwood Dick Library ("Buy One and You Will Buy the Rest!") are listed on the rear wrapper, and the final printed page lists the 100 titles in Beadle's Frontier Series. A striking example of late 19th-century American popular fiction, here in a near fine copy
