About This Item
Philadelphia: Temple University Press. Fine in Very Good+ dust jacket. 1988. First Edition; First Printing. Cloth. 0877225184 . A just about fine first edition in a little edge worn dust jacket with a couple of smaller tears. Signed by Milt "Judge" Hinton and dedicated to fellow jazz musician Arthur "Bud" Klauser. As evidenced with a small library stamp, from the Allison Library Bishop Gadsden, Charleston SC, the retirement home of Bud Klauser, where he passed away in 2011. Being a critical element of Jazz history, the book was brought to the 26th Annual Gibson Jazz Party September 1988 where more than 60 of the world's finest jazz musicians performed. This book contains snippets of the program and news article about the event charmingly affixed to the book and more than 50 signatures of the finest of the world's jazz players in the 1980s. The various signatures, sketches and dedications are predominantly on the first few pages with additional ones added near players' photographs across this book. A most fascinating and truly one a kind presentation; Milton John "Milt" Hinton, June 23, 1910 December 19, 2000, the "dean of bass players," has experienced the jazz world firsthand for more than five decades. This first person account of his life chronicles his early years in Vicksburg, Mississippi, growing up in Chicago's Southside, The New York City music scene through his successed in the 1980s ; 8vo; 328 pages; Signed by Author .
