King Features Syndicate, Inc., 2009., 2009.. Fine. - An original pen & ink drawing consisting of 7 panels, including the title panel, drawn in three rows on 12-1/2 inch high by 17 inch wide art paper. The strip, drawn by John Rose from a gag written by Mike Marland, portrays the preacher overhearing Jughaid swearing despite Loweezy's warning. When questioned by Loweezy, the preacher keeps Jughaid's secret but finds a way to meet out a penance: "He wuz jest telling' me he'd like to volunteer to mow th' church lawn this week!!". The strip is inked in black within light gray graphite editorial lines and the text is drawn in ink on strips of paper mounted within the balloons. King Features Syndicate's credits are printed on a strip of paper mounted vertically between the two middle panels and the strip is signed by the artist John Rose at the first middle panel. Near fine.

Created by Billy De Beck as "Barney Google", the strip became known as "Barney Google and Snuffy Smith" soon after De Beck sought out Fred Lasswell to work with him. Lasswell took over the strip after De Beck died in 1942. John Rose, an editorial cartoonist, started working as Lasswell's inking assistant in 1998 and went on to take over the strip after Lasswell's passing in 2001. Even while drawing the strip, Rose continued working as the editorial cartoonist for the Ogden Newspapers of Virginia as well as creating work for the weekly syndicated "Kids' Home Newspaper". In addition to the comic strip, Rose published several collections of "Snuffy Smith" comic strip books. He was awarded the Lum and Abner Memorial Award for his rural humor. A series of a wildfire prevention ads starring Snuffy Smith won him a first place award from the Tennessee Press Association in 2018.
