Covers have extensive smudges but they do not affect readability of the text. A solidly Good copy, but the interior is quite nice. Thomas Penniman and Beatrice Blackwood were well known English ethnologists and ethnographers. Their warm Preface recounts that Anthony Baines was one of the founding members of the Galpin Society, and for several decades (born in 1812 and died in 1997) produced a wide variety of definitive works on the history of musical instruments, becoming in the process an “organologist.” This work was published originally in 1960.
