Discoloration spots on cover possibly dampstain. Embossed stamp on bottom corner of front cover is faded. Edges are square. Corners are very lightly rubbed. Gilt lettering on spine. Shelf wear to head and tail of spine. Slight spine roll. Top edge of textblock is heavily darkened. Foxing and discoloration to fore-edge. Pages are age-tanned with light foxing. B&W photo plates throughout are crisp with some staining at edges of plates. Closed tear of frontispiece from hinge. No writing on pages. This book includes maps and photographs to highlight the author’s own exploration of Dr. Livingstone’s travels. history

The dust jacket, sleeved in mylar has light perimeter toning, a darkened spine, corner and spine chips with "Doran" almost totally obliterated at the spine tail, and an "L" shaped chip at the crown affecting the words "Back" and "To".

As well as being involved in translation work with several of the local tribal languages, he was an original thinker and was exceptionally well-read. In many ways he was far ahead of his time, as his books (Thinking Black and Back to the Long Grass) show very clearly.
