Large octavo; publisher's green linen-backed pictorial boards; 115,[1],[4](ads)pp.; color frontispiece and seven leaves of plates, additional text illus. throughout. Boards rather scuffed and rubbed with exposure along margins and corners, general dust-soil, especially to front cover, brief dampstain along bottom margin, small paper flaw affecting the "B" in "Babes," contemporary gift inscription to front free endpaper, else Good to Very Good, internally clean and sound. Pseudonymously published fairy tale which first appeared in 1907 under the title Policeman Bluejay. [Bienvenue & Schmidt pp. 291-2].
