About This Item

Sarasota, Florida, January 17, 1944., 1944.. Fine. - Over 20 words written in pencil by the American cartoonist Bandel Linn at the bottom of a typed letter by a school teacher requesting a sketch by him for his class's autograph collection. Bandel Linn has boldly written "Dear" next to the teacher's signature and "It's almost impossible to get original sketches now - due to the War Bond Exhibitions and the demand from army camps" at the bottom of the 11 inch high by 8-1/2 inch wide sheet and signed his name in full. Obviously moved to help young people, Bandel Linn has nonetheless included a 2-3/8 inch high by 3-3/8 inch wide card across which he has penned the following signed sentiments "Best Wishes - / Bandel Linn" above a pen & ink sketch of a man's head peeking out from the edge of the card. Fine together with the original postmarked mailing envelope addressed in his hand. <p>Born in Crawfordville, Indiana, the American cartoonist Bandel Linn studied at Wabash College before moving to NYC. Linn served as a corporal in the Army Air Corps during the Second World War. His work appeared in national magazines and newspapers including Collier's, the Saturday Evening Post, Business News, Cosmopolitan, and Country Gentleman. Linn drew cartoons for animated television cartoon shows and hosted the radio show "At Home with Bandel Linn".
