Description:
2005. Dated "March 5, 2005" with Palahniuk's agent's NYC return address. Aprx 150 words. Palahniuk returns signed books and informs his correspondent that in the furure the "address in Vacouver, Washington will be unreliable. I'm seldom there." He recommends St Helen's Bookstore for future signed books. "It's a small one-room bookstore and I stop there once a month... It's good to support small, independent bookstores." Palahniuk adds that he is glad to return the books. "It would bum-me-out to think they'd sat in the 'dead-letter' office, or -- like a ton of my mail -- got left in the rain... You wouldn't guess the sad, wet mountain of mail that gets hauled away from my old house in Portland." He ends with "I'll shut up now." Signed in ink. Fine condition.. Signed by Author. Unbound. Fine. Typed Letter Signed.

[London], 1899. One and one half pages, in ink, on outer panels of folded quarto lettersheet. Folded for mailing, a few isolated fox marks, very good. Cunninghame Graham writes (in his consistently difficult hand) to publisher T. I remain Yours sincerely R.B. Cunninghame Graham." Unwin published Cunninghame Graham's THE IPANÉ the same year.

Description:
1880. Near Fine. 13 handwritten letters to Pennsylvania Representative William Ward. There are two topics addressed by these letters. One topic is who Ward will recommend for a position with the Internal Revenue under James Ashworth (1836-1882), a Philadelphian who had been a captain during the Civil War and as an Internal Revenue official favored appointing an ex-soldier from his district for the position. The other topic is local support for Ward running for the Republican nomination for Senate in 1881. John I. Mitchell was the ultimate Republican candidate; he won against the sitting Democrat, William A. Wallace. William Ward (1837-1895) was born in Philadelphia and attended Girard College, the boarding school established by Stephen Girard (1750-1831) for poor, white, male orphans. Ward learned printing while working at the Delaware County Republican in Chester, Pa., and then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1859. He later served on the Chester City Council and represented…
