Annapolis, MD: 9 November, 1966., 1966.. Very good. - Autograph letter filling one side of an 11 inch high by 8-1/2 inch wide sheet of cream note-paper with his name & address stamped in blue at top right. Signed "Peter W. Haas Jr / Rear Admiral USN ret." Agnew's reply is stapled to the letter at top left. The top right corner is creased. Folded twice for mailing. Very good.

Haas writes to Agnew to thank him for writing to him at a very busy time and to congratulate Agnew on having just been elected Governor of Maryland: "Yesterday's victory was so gratifying for the thinking people of our State and we are certain that you will prove to be one of the best Governors ever...." Agnew's reply is a brief note thanking Haas for his congratulations.

Peter W Haas, Jr. retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Rear Admiral. He entered the Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1919 and graduated and was commissioned ensign in June 1923. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for service in the South Pacific during World War II. At the time of his retirement from active duty in 1955 he was Commander, Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, Calif. and had risen to the rank of Rear Admiral.
